For some reason I never got around to blogging this, though I was extremely pleased with the result. The Prince of Mist by Carlos Ruiz Zafon takes place during wartime and starts out a little slow but soon builds up to be more frightening than I anticipated and I wanted to get to the end quickly. (The other books, for your edification, were Elizabeth Hand's Winterlong and Carlos Ruiz Zafón's The Angel's Game. I got really excited about Carlos Ruiz Zafón's young-adult fiction because he is just the sort of writer I would have loved to read when I was growing up. The plot evolves around Max Carver. Zocalo Public Square connects people to ideas and to each other in an open, accessible, non-partisan and broad-minded spirit. This is the first fiction book I've ever done internal illustrations for. I will say, I wasn't clear exactly why this was the time the Prince of Mist decided to return and claim Jacob, aside from the fact that this is when Max and his family moved there and that was the story.
